Bachelor Program
The University of Twente offers four courses in the English language:
CreaTe challenges you to use smart technology and new media to make life healthier, easier or just more fun. You will become a designer with technical expertise and awareness of societal developments.
In today’s world we find endless possibilities for people to interact through technology. With smartphone applications, videos and sound, digital technology is changing the behaviour of people. To influence behaviour by digital technology is the core of Creative Technology.
Think of a speaking garbage bin, which invites you to dispose of your garbage, and which reacts to garbage by saying “thank you, and have a nice day”. Think of a ‘musical’ staircase; it is more entertaining to walk on and will stimulate people to take the staircase instead of the escalator. Could you imagine a city centre which knows who you are, who your friends are, and where your friends are?
To invent such attractive solutions to today’s societal problems, we need more than technology alone. Being creative is a vital component. We need people who understand technology and use creative thinking to design a better, safer and more enjoyable world
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A choice for CreaTe is a choice for Design and Creativity, but definitely also for Technology! It is also a choice for English. There are language requirements for admission (see below).
- Prerequisites
Inernational Students with another background (nor the Dutch nor the German system of education) need to submit their diplomas and other relevant certificates to establish the equivalence with the Dutch vwo diploma. They also must meet the language requirements below.

Explicitly prove their proficiency at IELTS 6.0 level (over all score), before admission can be granted.
Advanced Technology is a unique programme and is only offered at the University of Twente. It is a distinctive programme because you don’t limit yourself to one specific technology or discipline.
Following in the footsteps of your famous predecessor, da Vinci, you will focus your research on several areas. Electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, applied physics, business administration, marketing. Your research will be application-driven. You will develop technologies which meet the demands of society and our (knowledge-driven) economy, and which can be of practical use in our vastly-changing world. It is AT-students who will play an important role in our continued existence in the near future. In the same way that AT-students focus on the world around them, the AT programme focuses on all aspects of society that require technological innovation. This means you may work on projects at the worldfamous MESA+ Nanotechnology Research Institute, contribute to new technologies such as ‘Lab-on-a-Chip’- developed by the University of Twente’s spin-off company, Lionix – or play a part in other socially-oriented projects and research.

As a specialization of Public Administration, this study takes an in-depth look at the European Union by studying law, economics, political science and sociology.
Nobody disputes the fact that Europe is becoming increasingly important. However, this same complexity also means that in order to procedure solutions to the many issues concerning the Union, we will need to examine Europe from various different angles. This is why the European Studies programme focuses not only on Brussels, but also takes a look at the impact of European politics on the individual member states and international politics, putting the development and discussion of European integration centre stage.
We will concentrate, for example, on topics such as the health care systems, foreign policy, homeland security and asylum policies, trade and European environmental issues.
